JAN 29, 2020 WAWA: Getting into that 2020 Vision!

Full transparency, I’ve had a million excuses for kick-starting WAWA this year.  Weather….work….family.  Probably all good excuses, right?

Wrong!

We’re back on track this week….it’s a new year…2020!  

Hill repeats, my favorite!  (Using a route we did last year….route link is below).

Route is posted at THIS LINK: WAWA 10232019 run route.

Total planned distance is right around 4 miles, if you do all four hill repeats.  (Approximately 1/4 mile downhill; 1/4 mile back uphill.)

That’s a lot of “four’s”!

We’ll meet outside the Cornwell Center at 5:45 am.  Temps will be in mid 30’s with no rain in the forecast…..a beautiful morning to run!

Look “FOUR-ward” to seeing everyone in the morning!

JAN 8, 2020 WAWA: “Back in the saddle…let’s run!”

After a long, holiday break, WAWA is back this Wednesday.  Nothing too complicated.  Simple, easy paced, moderate run through Eastover…..a group favorite route!

Plan on approximately 4 miles…give or take.

Meet outside the Cornwell Center at 5:45 am, ready to go.

Weather forecast calls for clear, crisp temps in the mid-30’s.  Dress warm and wear reflective clothing!

DEC 4, 2019 WAWA: “Second Chance at Latta”

Had to cancel the planned Latta Park run a couple weeks ago due to below freezing temps.  Temps this week are above freezing….barely, but more manageable.  So, bringing back the planned route to Latta, along the streets of Charlotte’s Dilworth neighborhood.

Here’s the “second chance workout”:

-From the Cornwell Center, we’ll exit right, then run down Radcliffe Ave towards Queens Road West (QRW).

-From QRW, we’ll head out East Blvd to Dilworth Road EAST.

-Turn right on Dilworth Road EAST towards Latta Park.

-Run counter-clockwise around the Park, then exit along Dilworth Road WEST.

-Get back on East Blvd, heading towards QRW.

-Follow QRW uphill to Wellesley Ave. then back to the Cornwell Center.  (NOTE: We’ll probably take Maryland Avenue, parallel to QRW, up to Wellesley due to the sidewalk conditions on QRW.)

Distance is approximately 4.7 miles.  CLICK FOR ROUTE MAP

Moderate to easy pace planned.  Weather will be a chilly 35 degrees with no rain in forecast.  Sunrise is at 7:18 am.  Still need to wear reflective gear!

NEXT Wednesday will be out last WAWA of the year before the holiday break.  As with year’s past, we’ll do the “light run” next week….running along the festive lite streets of Hillside Avenue and Picardy Place.

NOV 20, 2019 WAWA: “North then South” route

Bringing back a run route that we haven’t done in nearly a year.  Oddly enough, back in OCT 2018, when we last did this run, the temps were a “balmy” 60 degrees!  Temps are a little different this year!

Our run takes us “north” of the Cornwell Center, then back “south” before eventually getting back “home”.  The total distance is 4.7 miles.  Easy paced, group run.  We’ll circle past the Duke Mansion about 2.5 miles into the run before heading back south around portions of the Booty Loop.

Total climbing elevation along the route is 198 ft.

Max. elevation is 764 ft.

Weather temp will be around 40 degrees, with only about a 2% chance of rain.  Sunrise isn’t until 7:05 am and it’s been pretty dark in the morning lately…..so plan accordingly!

NOV 13, 2019 WAWA: Back to Latta

Heading back to one of my favorite run routes this week; Latta Park, nestled in the Dilworth neighborhood.

Here’s the general run route:

-From the Cornwell Center, we’ll exit right, then run down Radcliffe Ave towards Queens Road West (QRW).

OCT 30, 2019 WAWA: “Spooky Track Workout!”

Last run prior to daylight savings time-change this coming weekend….which means last time running in darkness for awhile!  Plan accordingly….reflective gear, headlamps, etc.  Don’t be scared…..there’s strength in numbers!

Running from Cornwell Center to the AG Middle School track.  4 total laps on the track:

-Easy jog on first straight-away

-Sprints on the next 6 straight-aways

-Easy jog on 8th straight-away

Return route to the Cornwell Center upon leaving the track.

Piece of cake, right?

Total distance planned is about 4.6 miles, including the track work.  Route map is HERE.

Gather outside the Cornwell Center, ready to go at 5:45 am.

Temps will be in lower 60’s.  30% chance of some “wet stuff”.  Sunrise will not be until nearly 8 am ET.

Shoutout to our fellow WAWA runner, Lesley, who completed the Marine Corps Marathon last weekend in our nation’s capital!  Great job, Lesley!

OCT 23, 2019 WAWA: Hill Repeats on Arcadia

Am thinking about the number “four” this week.  Four hill repeats and a total distance of 4.0 miles!

“Fab Four” come to mind??
